Save your first catch

Keep a useful record with a species, time, optional location and the details you will want next time.

Editorial review: . Review due: .

Start with what you know

Sign in, open Catches, then choose Add Catch. Voice recording is also available from Record. You can log without sharing a precise location. A sample entry below is fictional; it is not a fishing report.

  1. Choose the species and correct the catch date and time, especially when entering yesterday’s fish.
  2. Add a measured size or weight only when you know it. Leave unknown details empty.
  3. Set the fishing location or leave it unresolved. Recording from home does not make home the fishing spot.
  4. Add the fly or lure, conditions you actually observed, and a short note. Save, then open the saved catch and check it.

A useful first note

Example: “Rainbow trout, October 12 at 8:10 a.m.; size not measured; size 16 Pheasant Tail, dead drift below the riffle; water looked clear.” Preserve uncertainty instead of inventing a number.

If you are logging a client’s fish, confirm its angler attribution on the trip. A client’s catch should not silently become your personal best.

If saving does not finish

Check whether the item is queued, saving or needs attention. Use the offline recovery guide before signing out or clearing browser data. A local draft and a catch saved to your account are different states.
