Fish Fish and ReelIQ: on-device photo tools and privacy

Choose around the fishing record you want to keep. This is a comparison of documented workflows, not an accuracy or reliability test.

Provider documentation has individual checked dates beside each citation. No app trial or checkout test was performed. No prices or performance guarantees are being compared here.

When ReelIQ is worth a look

ReelIQ’s iPhone product page documents on-device species suggestions, logging, AR measurement and history without a signal. Weather and forecasts need internet. It says catches stay on the phone and its device backup, without a provider journal account. Species results can be corrected. These are useful distinctions if local photo capture is the main job.

Primary evidence: ReelIQ product and offline FAQ (checked 2026-10-17); ReelIQ support and export questions (checked 2026-10-17)

Where Fish Fish fits

Fish Fish provides a browser-based journal with editable voice extraction, manual catches, saved conditions and personal history views. It can queue work on the device, while AI processing needs connectivity. Photo suggestions are rollout- and account-dependent. Check the linked help for current limits; this comparison does not announce planned features.

Questions the documentation does not settle

ReelIQ’s product page lists export, while Support says full export is future work. Confirm what a current installation exports and how a lost device is recovered. This review does not validate species or measurement accuracy, effort-normalized comparisons, or device compatibility.

An undocumented feature is not necessarily absent. Published vendor claims are not independently tested results. Offers, regional availability and account permissions can change; verify the current checkout and relevant policy before choosing.

Try this before moving your journal

Use a clearly photographed, known species in airplane mode. Correct a deliberately wrong suggestion, reopen the entry and test recovery using non-sensitive sample data. Compare that with Fish Fish’s explicitly online AI and current photo access.

Keep your originals until you have checked retrieval and any export or recovery path. Use synthetic records for a trial; private trips and exact spots are not needed to compare a workflow.
