Understand saved station conditions

Read the source and observation time before using a saved weather or water value.

Start with the fishing time

Correct the catch date and time before saving an older fish. Fish Fish looks for supported USGS water observations and NWS weather observations near that event time. It does not substitute today’s weather when historical coverage is missing.

Station observations retain provider, station, distance, units, observation time, retrieval time and quality. A nearby gauge is context; distance alone does not prove that it measures your fishing water. Choose a supported station when the form offers that choice.

Missing and changed evidence

A missing reading is unknown, not zero. Different sensors can have different observation times. Provider outages or absent history can leave a saved catch without station context; your catch still matters.

User-entered conditions and older values with unknown sources stay separate. Changing the catch time or location can make the retained station snapshot inapplicable; check its warning before using it in a report. Old records are not silently backfilled.
